When we get a dog in rescue with his rear dew claws, this is a. of the opinion that they do no harm ( I am aware that double dew claws are part of. . with balance and mountain/hill climbing, and other things bernese dogs do.
The shoulders are moderately laid back, flat-lying, well muscled and never loose. The legs are straight and strong and the elbows are well under the shoulder when the dog is standing. The pasterns slope very slightly but are never weak. Dew claws may be removed.
Feet: The Bernese Mountain Dog should have compact, round feet with well-arched toes. The rear feet should face straight, turning neither in nor out. The front dewclaws may be removed while the back ones should be removed. Tail: The Bernese Mountain Dog has a straight, bushy tail.
The Bernese Mountain Dog is not a breed known for having double dew claws, and for showing all the dew claws are usually removed.
